My love,
Be with me today. You truly are my rose, the very theme of my song! Take notice of how I look upon you with my unrelenting love divine. Let me smother you with kisses. I long for you. Will you come run away with me? I promise you rest in my never-ending love.
How glorious the sentiment! This invitation contains random verses (with some added variations) taken from Song of Songs, The Passion Translation.
When I read from this book, I’m immediately transported to a place of refuge—a place where my Daddy is waiting to love me without restraint. There is a fragrance released so pleasing; over and over it is poured out on me (see 1:3).
This book is truly the cry of God’s heart to His beloved—that’s us! I am enthralled by this book. When I read from it, I often find that all else slips away.
There is plenty to unpack from this book, so much that I plan to share at a future time. But for now, let me briefly touch on the nature of this love letter.
The Song of Songs speaks of earnest intimacy. It conveys an intense relationship between a Man and His bride!
Why this intensity? It is not because this Bridegroom-King wants or needs more slaves. Read Galatians 4:3-7AMP:
So also we [whether Jews or Gentiles], when we were children (spiritually immature), were kept like slaves under the elementary [man-made religious or philosophical] teachings of the world. But when [in God’s plan] the proper time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the [regulations of the] Law, so that He might redeem and liberate those who were under the Law, that we [who believe] might be adopted as sons [as God’s children with all rights as fully grown members of a family]. And because you [really] are [His] sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, “Abba! Father!” Therefore, you are no longer a slave (bond-servant), but a son; and if a son, then also an heir through [the gracious act of] God [through Christ].
Children, heirs, beloved bride. Select whichever name you desire. Bottom line: YOU belong. You are wholly His because Jesus redeemed you and He gave back what was rightfully yours: identity, authority, dominion, provision, power—all things (Romans 8:32).
All things were lost back in the garden when man exercised his free will and disobeyed. His eyes were opened to good and evil (Genesis 2:16-17). Man hid in fear when he realized he was no longer clothed with God’s glory (Genesis 3:8-10).
Now with our fellowship restored, we are offered moment by moment inspirations by the indwelling Holy Spirit to experience the full expression of this love (1 John 4:9-16).
Intimacy is the consummate union replete with abundant excellencies, secrets and strategies for fruitful living. The word replete comes from a Latin root word that means “to fill.” A richer understanding of this word illustrates something that contains ALL that is wanted, needed or possible. The excellence of intimacy is the all in all!
The extravagant love we delight in will ultimately drive us to share Jesus because we will want others to experience it for themselves (Romans 2:4). It is too good not to share!
Beloved, we are His reasons for His love. Plain and simple. Nothing more. No special character trait or talent. No tremendous ministry or calling. He just loves us. Period!
Song of Songs is a romantic yearning sung from the heart of the King. When He calls you today, respond in sweet melody like the bride you are:
“Yes, I will come to the one who loves me. Stir up the sweet spice of your life within me. Spare nothing as you make me your fruitful garden. Hold nothing back until I release your fragrance. Clothe me afresh with Your glory, your beloved is here.”
